 Bonnie “Hey Baby” DeShong

Bonnie Hey Baby DeShong has been apart of Chicago Radio for 20 years.  She is now the External Markets Director for the DuSable Museum and the host of her new show, “THE TRAVELING EYE” heard Friday’s on WVON Radio 1690 and worldwide on www.WVON.com.

Bonnie began her radio career in 1985 as morning and afternoon drive-time traffic announcer at WGCI-FM Radio working with Bob Wall and Tom Joyner. Later Bonnie became co-host of the “Banks and Company” morning show with Doug Banks on WGCI-FM.  November of 1993, Bonnie made the move to WVAZ/V103 to join John Monds as his co-host on the V103 Morning Show.  In 1995 the show moved to the afternoon drive time slot and became the Monds Squad. Bonnie became WVAZ’s Director of Community Relations in 1999 and held the position through 2004.  In 2001, she became co-host of the Tony Richards and the V-Crew Afternoon Drive Show featuring Bonnie DeShong and George Willborn.  In 2003 Bonnie became the co-host to Ramonski Luv on V-103’s new V-Crew show.  Bonnie left V-103 in February of 2004 and became co-host of Chicago Municipal Television’s “Chicago Works” show. 2004 also brought Bonnie and John Monds back together as host of the Morning Drive radio show for WSRB/SOUL 106.3.  Bonnie and John left the station in 2005.

Bonnie is the entertainment columnist for N’DIGO MAGAPAPER’S “Grapevine” Column.  She is a member of the Chicago Film Critics Associations and her film reviews can be read weekly in the Chicago Crusader Newspaper.  She also hosts The Traveling Eye, a travel destination show on Friday's at 11 am with co-host Ja'Vonne Harley on The Talk of Chicago 1690 – WVON radio.  Bonnie is also a mentor to radio students at Kennedy King College and was heard on Kennedy Kings radio station WKKC, as one of the Legends in Radio.  From 1998 through 2000 Bonnie was the film critic for WFLD Fox32 Early Morning News show.  In 2002, she joined the team of ABC7’s “190 North” as a fill-in reporter.

As a member of Delta Sigma Theta Public Service Sorority, Bonnie continues to serve the community.  She has been instrumental in book drives, charity fundraisers and community outreach programs.  She has received numerous awards recognizing her work in the community.  Bonnie is a volunteer “Cuddler” at the Cradle Adoption Agency and is on the fundraising committee for Proviso- Leyden Council for Community Action (PLCCA).  She is on the Board of Directors and serves as 1st Vice Chair of South Central Community Services, Inc. and is also on the board of the Southside Community Arts Center.  Over past years, Bonnie has served as Mistress of Ceremonies of the March of Dimes, WalkAmerica walkathon and walks in at least 10 walkathons a year for charity.  She ran in the 2003 Chicago Marathon to raise money for the AIDS Foundation of Chicago.
